About Your Breeders

Hi,  my name is April Hort and I
would like to welcome you to our
website. My husband Todd and I
live in the panhandle of Nebraska,
with our three wonderful boys and
our beautiful bulldogs
Jade and E.B.

If you are a bulldog owner you
should appreciate the humor of this
web page and our love of the breed
and if you are interested in owning
a bulldog, I hope that you can take
my experiences, and learn as much
as you can to make an informed
decision if bulldogs are the right
breed for you.

The first time my husband said that this was his dream dog, I started doing research on them, after
about a week online, I knew that I wanted a puppy and after about a month  reading everything that I
could about them, I knew I was hooked. There was no doubt in my mind that we would have our
bulldog and that she would change our lives. Boy was I right!  We got
Jade in 2007 and she is
wonderful.

Nothing that you can read about this breed can prepare you for them! I mean that in the best possible
way. When they say they are stubborn, man are they stubborn! We can call Jade and she can walk up to
us turn around and take off running. Her personality is awesome. She is loving and onry all at once!

Loyalty is a great word to describe them. Jade will follow me everywhere I go. If I am on the computer
she is at my feet. If I run downstairs to get a pen she is right there with me. Then right back at my feet
when I sit down again!

I had read that bulldogs will eat anything, and thought okay easy enough to handle. Then when she got
home I realized quickly that it was no exaggeration. She will pick up a pen, pencil, toy or glass Christmas
balls off the tree. Anything! She was worse than a baby. Though she did outgrow most of her chewing
after she got done teething!

I found that the information I read about bulldogs is a great generalization. For example, I read that they
were generally a lazy breed, slow getting around, difficulty in getting upstairs or on couch's, yea right! If
you are getting a bulldog anticipating that from the start, think again. They are just like any other puppy,
they run around, up and down two flights of stairs, chase our cat, Pete, everywhere, even onto the
couch. Puppies are very energetic! Jade and E.B have slowed down significantly. Expect a puppy when
you get them, until about a year, sometimes longer, before they start to calm down.

After careful consideration we decided to breed  Jade in 2008. She is a beautiful example of the bulldog
breed, with a wonderful temperament and exceptional
AKC  bloodlines. She is Champion sired and
has several Champions in her fathers 5 generation
pedigree. Not to pass on her bloodlines would be
a great tragedy to the breed, in our opinion . Becoming a bulldog breeder was not something I took
lightly, nor should anyone who is thinking about becoming a breeder. Bulldogs have so many health
problems that not breeding the best to the best, can have dire consequences. So many backyard
breeders can cause
so many problems for the breed, that it takes years to undo. This isn't a breed that
you just put two dogs together and let nature takes its course. Bulldogs are a man-made breed. They
have less than a 5% chance in breeding on their own or being able to whelp naturally. They are all
artificially inseminated and have to have c-sections. Thus the cost of a quality puppy, if you are breeding
correctly. Not to just any stud, in exchange for a free puppy.  When you are breeding with the breeds
best interest at heart, you are researching pedigrees, and putting out serious money for stud fees. In
2008 we bred Jade with a gorgeous Champion, "Bayou City Rocky" and kept E.B. E.B. is amazing, to
say the least, and has an even better confirmation than her mother. We hope that you can experience
the love we share for them, with
a puppy of your own!
